SDC Foundation exists to foster, promote and develop the creativity and craft of stage directors and choreographers. SDCF’s goals are to provide opportunities to practice the crafts of directing and choreography; to gather and disseminate craft and career information; to promote the profession to emerging talent; to provide opportunities for exchange of knowledge among directors and choreographers; to increase the awareness of the value of directors’ and choreographers’ work, and to convene around issues affecting theatre artists.

We are always looking for support to help sustain this work, from volunteers for events and around the office, to donations that help fund the Obersvership Program and Fellowships. If you would like to get involved with SDCF, there are a number of ways to do so.

SDCF relies on charitable contributions from people who believe in theater and want to support our mission to foster, promote and develop the creativity and craft of stage directors and choreographers at all levels of career. Your donations enable us to provide programs around the U.S. including:

    • Observerships offering 25 emerging artists the opportunity to shadow master artists
    • Fellowships offering in-depth observation/assisting
    • One-on-One live conversation series
    • The Zelda Fichandler Award recognizing transformational artists in regional theatre
    • The Callaway Award recognizing work in New York City
    • The “Mr. Abbott” Award recognizing lifetime achievement
    • Free monthly DCNs exploring specific topics of interest to theatre artists
    • Guest Artist Initiative program offering guest directing and choreographing opportunities at U.S. universities
    • Panel Discussions
    • Symposium
    • Advocacy Projects
    • Archival podcasts
