Guest Artist Initiative
American colleges and universities may apply to hire a guest director or choreographer for a production.  Guest director or choreographer may not be selected, and search for guest artist must begin with SDCF posting the position.  To receive funding, college/university must select guest artist from those who applied through SDCF.  Note that SDCF plays no role in selection; SDCF merely facilitates the search.  Because Guest Artist Initiative productions are on SDC contracts, only Full SDC Members in good standing may apply for Guest Artist positions.

CONVERSATIONS

Artistic Leadership Group
Directors and choreographers who have reached a point of career to be considered for artistic leadership positions are selected to participate.

All other conversations are open to everyone.

RECOGNITION AWARDS

Callaway Awards
Directors or choreographers who are SDC members in good standing are eligible for their work on NYC productions that have employed AEA performers – except under the Showcase Code, Broadway agreement or LORT A+ – and for which the director and/or choreographer were employed under an eligible SDC contract.  Staged readings and concerts – including the Encores! Series at City Center – are not eligible.  Events that are annual – i.e. A Christmas Carol – will be considered only the first time they are presented.  Productions that are “remounted” are not eligible.  Past Callaway Award awardees are eligible to be selected as finalists but are not eligible for the awards.

“Mr. Abbott” Award
Directors and choreographers who have had impact over the course of career will be considered for this award for a body of work that has had influence on the field artistically.  It is unlikely but not impossible for a non-SDC member to be selected.

Zelda Fichandler Award
SDC Members and Associate Members in good standing by the nomination deadline are eligible.  Artistic staff and freelance directors and choreographers who work and live in the selected region are eligible.  Note that this is not an award for lifetime achievement; this award heralds both accomplishment to date and promise for the future.

*SDCF Board Members may not apply for this program

Participants in the selection process of a program (for example, those on the program’s selection committee) are not eligible for that specific program. For example, the directors and choreographers who serve as Observership Evaluators may not apply to the Observership Program but are eligible to apply for those SDCF programs for which they play no role in selection.
