Robert O’Hara

Robert O’Hara received the NAACP Best Director Award for his direction of Eclipsed, Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play for Antebellum, OBIE for his direction of the world premiere of the critically acclaimed In The Continuum. He wrote and directed the world premiere of Insurrection: Holding History; the piece received the Oppenheimer Award for Best New American Play. He directed the world premieres of Brother/Sister Plays (Part 2) and Wild With Happy. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at NYU/TISCH School of the Arts and has directed at the following theaters among others: New York Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights Horizons, Alley Theater, Arena Stage, Primary Stages, Steppenwolf Theater, Magic Theater, CTG/Kirk Douglas Theater, Alliance Theater, Yale Rep, City Theater,  American Conservatory Theater, The Goodman Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Wilma, Woolly Mammoth Theater, Edinburgh Fringe Fest, The Market Theater in Johannesburg and The Baxter Theater in Cape Town. He is currently the Mellon Playwright in Residence at Woolly Mammoth Theater Company. He got his Directing MFA from Columbia University and was recently awarded the PT Barnum Award for Excellence in Entertainment from his alma mater, Tufts University.
