The Resident Artist must:

· Identify as Black or of the African Diaspora.

· Be committed to exploring new models of leadership, artistry, and community engagement to support the field’s reemergence.

· Be interested in exploring artistic direction at a regional theater as a potential career path.

· Be interested in directing or choreographing a production at the host venue within the next two to three years.

· Have a deep enthusiasm for working with the host venue’s artistic director and the artistic staff at the host venue, and a passion for working in the host venue’s local community.

Additionally, this fellowship is for mid-career artists. We also welcome applicants who have come later to the craft of directing or choreographing. To be considered, the applicant must have been working as a professional director or choreographer for at least 5 years.

SDCF will provide $40,000 grant to each Resident Artist.
