Monday, January 9, 2017 – Join Foundation Director David Roberts as he sits down with acclaimed directors Kwame Kwei-Armah and Patricia McGregor to discuss the intersection of social issues and the work of the director.

SDC Foundation’s One-on-One Conversation series illuminates the creative processes, secret mottos, and personal and professional experiences that guide today’s luminary directors and choreographers as they forge artistic careers in a profession that has no handbook. These intimate and dynamic conversations between today’s most successful artists offer audiences rare insights into the challenging and ever-changing world of theatre making.

Kwame Kwei-Armah is Artistic director of Baltimore Center Stage. Selected credits Marley, One Night in Miami, Amadeus, dance of the holy ghosts, The Mountaintop, An Enemy of the People. Patricia McGregor has twice been profiled by The New York Times for her direction of world premieres. Recent credits include Hamlet (The Public Theater), Measure for Measure (Old Globe), The Parchaman Hour (The Guthrie), Ugly Lies the Bone(Roundabout Underground), brownsville song (b-side for tray)(LCT3), Holding air Down (Metropolitan Museum) and the world premiere of Stagger Lee (Dallas Theater Center). Other credits include A Raisin in the Sun, The Winter’s Tale, and Spunk(California Shakespeare Theater), Adoration of the Old Woman(INTAR), The House that will not Stand (Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre),The Mountaintop (Philadelphia Theatre Company), Blood Dazzler (Harlem Stage) Four Electric Ghosts (The Kitchen) and the world premiere of Hurt Village(Signature Theatre Company). She served as Associate Director of Fela! on Broadway. For many years she has directed The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway. Mrs. McGregor has been a guest artist at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program as well as at Amherst College and Southern Methodist University. She co-founded Angela’s Pulse with her sister, choreographer and organizer Paloma McGregor. Angela’s Pulse creates vital choreoplays and fosters collaboration among artists, educators, organizers, academics, and other diverse communities.
