
SDCF has a many of avenues to access professional development including the Professional Development Program, named fellowships, and the Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency. This programming is meant to support artists at varying levels in their careers and access points.
EARLY CAREER
THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Offers early-career directors and choreographers observerships and hands-on fellowship opportunities with experienced artists throughout the production process through opening night.
THE MIKE OCKRENT FELLOWSHIP
Provides an opportunity for an early-career director or choreographer to support an experienced director or choreographer on the production of a big-budget Broadway musical or play
THE ABE BURROWS AWARD FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTORS
Grants a $10,000 unrestricted award to support an emerging director/choreographer fully focus as an assistant director on a project.
MID CAREER
THE LYNNETTE BARKLEY AWARD
Supports SDCF Professional Development Program alumni with $5,000 unrestricted awards to advance impactful passion projects and grow their artistic careers.
THE DENHAM FELLOWHSHIP
Awards an annual $10,000 grant to women who are early and mid-career directors to further develop their directing skills.
THE LLOYD RICHARDS NEW FUTURES RESIDENCY
Awards $50,000 to a mid-career director or choreographer with a profound commitment to celebrating Black voices and to develop leadership skills through mentorship with a host theatre and artistic leader.
